Kate Hudson has revealed the glowing acclamation she got from the rea-life woman she played in her new biopic Song Sung Blue.
The film stars Hudson, 46, and Hugh Jackman, 57, as married couple Mike and Claire Sardina, who started a Neil Diamond cover band in 1990s Milwaukee.
Last month the Daily Mail exclusively spoke to the late Mike Sardina’s son from a previous marriage, Mike Jr, who was livid over the movie and denounced its leads as ‘monsters’ for neglecting to make any mention of him in the film or its promotions.
However Hudson has come in for gushing praise in other quarters, and this Thursday it emerged she has been nominated for best actress at the Oscars.
One of the people who reacted warmly to her performance was none other than Claire, Hudson revealed in a new interview with Deadline.
‘Claire is so happy and my relationship with Claire and telling her story and this love story – it’s such a love letter to them,’ said the daughter of Goldie Hawn.

‘And I am just so grateful that Claire was and is pleased and I just can’t wait to talk to her. People’s reaction to the movie, the way it’s moved people, that’s what I think about,’ she added, noting she was ‘insanely emotional’ about the storyline.
After Mike Jr fiercely criticized the movie to the Daily Mail last month, Hudson issued a diplomatic response, deflecting the subject entirely.
”Honestly, I don’t even know — out of respect for our filmmakers, I’m not the right person to speak to it,’ she told the Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile Jackman – who failed to earn recognition from the Oscars for his performance as Mike Sr – did not publicly address Mike Jr’s remarks at all.
Hudson’s Oscar nomination is her first in 25 years, since she was in contention for best supporting actress for Cameron Crowe’s rock ‘n’ roll movie Almost Famous.
She lost out that year to Marcia Gay Harden’s turn as Lee Krasner, the artist and wife of Jackson Pollock, in the biopic Pollock directed by and starring Ed Harris.
This year she is facing off in a formidable category including Jessie Buckley as William Shakespeare’s wife in Chloe Zhao’s biopic Hamnet.
Her competition is rounded out by Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Emma Stone in Bugonia and Renate Reinsve in Sentimental Value.

Hudson earned the only Oscar nomination for Song Sung Blue, which was otherwise ignored including for Jackman’s role and its director Craig Brewer.
While her fans were delighted at her latest accolade, she was also slated on social media by others who felt her performance was less than Oscar-worthy.
She came in for particular trolling by those outraged that Cynthia Erivo was snubbed for her role as Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West, in Wicked: For Good.
Wicked: For Good was a notable snub in all categories, failing to net nominations even for Ariana Grande’s widely acclaimed supporting performance as Galinda aka Glinda.
Earlier this month, she was also in the running for the Golden Globe for best actress – comedy or musical, but lost out to Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
