HARDY has assembled a superstar lineup, including Eric Church, Morgan Wallen, and Tim McGraw, to join him on his brand-new release, “McArthur,” an expertly written song that traces the bloodline of the fictional McArthur family and explores the legacy a family leaves behind across generations.
Out now, “McArthur” was written by HARDY alongside Jameson Rogers, Josh Thompson, and Chase McGill, and produced by Jay Joyce. The song finds each artist stepping into a different role within the family, with McGraw portraying John McArthur, the original patriarch; Church taking on the role of Junior McArthur; HARDY as Jones McArthur; and Wallen rounding out the story as Hunter McArthur.

The song unfolds in chronological order, beginning with McGraw leading the first verse: “My name’s John McArthur and I work this dirt/ ‘Til they lay me down in it in my one good shirt/ I kept my family fed with a mule and a plow/ I’m a whisper in the wind through the pine trees now.”
Church follows as Junior McArthur, sharing his reckless story and an untimely end. While he never gets the chance to meet his son, his legacy lives on: “I’m Junior McArthur and I join my old man/ By way of a bullet and we had plans/ Left behind my woman and my boy name Jones/ Never got to meet him but he’s carrying on.”
Next, HARDY steps into the role of Jones McArthur, who reflects on trying to pass down values of honesty and hard work, only to watch his son become tempted by money: “I’m Jones McArthur and I tried like hell/ To teach my son why a man don’t sell/ But he came home from college seeing dollar signs/ Didn’t wanna go to work just wanted me to die.”
The storyline concludes with Wallen as Hunter McArthur, who faces a defining crossroads as he chooses between financial gain and honoring his family’s legacy. The “whisper in the pines” serves as his conscience, echoing the voices of those who came before him: “I’m Hunter McArthur and the deal looks good/ In eighteen months this’ll be in every hood/ I got a million dollar line I can sign my name on/ But there’s a whisper in the pines that’s tellin me gone.”

As the song builds, each artist’s voice weaves together in harmony before reuniting on the final chorus, driving home the song’s central question: “When you pass on, what you gonna pass down.”
“’McArthur’ is a very special one,” HARDY, a five-time ACM award winner and two-time CMA award winner, shared. “It came together pretty fast. I know I wrote the song, but I also feel like how did I end up on this song? It’s a lineup of absolute legends.”
This is easily one of the most creative storytelling songs country music has seen in a long time, getting back to the heart of what the genre was built on. If this doesn’t earn a Song of the Year nomination, it’s hard to imagine what will.
