The upcoming celebrity edition is already surprising producers with how seriously its famous contestants are taking the competition — and a new coaching lineup led by Joe Jonas, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green is ready to bring the heat.
After 30 seasons of discovering talented singers, The Voice is preparing for a major change. Season 31, titled The Voice: Celebrity, will feature famous personalities competing to become the show’s first celebrity champion.
But the biggest surprise so far may not be who is competing — it’s how fiercely the celebrities approached the challenge. Executive producer Audrey Morrissey revealed that the production team hadn’t fully anticipated just how competitive the contestants would be during filming.
1. The Celebrities Were Far More Competitive Than Expected
According to Morrissey, the team was surprised by how much effort the celebrity contestants put into the competition. These stars weren’t simply showing up for a fun television appearance — they wanted to perform well and prove themselves.
The goal was to find people from different backgrounds, including actors, athletes, comedians, and reality-TV personalities, who also possess genuine singing talent.
Unlike a show that teaches celebrities how to sing, The Voice: Celebrity expects its contestants to be able to impress a coach during the Blind Auditions. That means fame alone won’t be enough to earn a place on a team.
2. A New Coaching Lineup Is Ready to Take Over

The upcoming season will introduce a fresh coaching combination. Joe Jonas will join the panel for the first time, alongside returning coaches Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
The three coaches will guide the celebrity contestants through the competition, choosing singers during the Blind Auditions and helping their teams prepare for the challenges ahead. With their different musical backgrounds, the lineup could make for some interesting coaching decisions.
3. Keke Palmer Will Host a New Era of ‘The Voice’
Another major change is happening away from the coaching panel. Keke Palmer will host the celebrity edition, stepping into the role held by Carson Daly for the show’s first 30 seasons.
Daly isn’t leaving the franchise entirely, however. He will remain involved as a producer, helping bring the new format to viewers.
The season will also introduce three behind-the-scenes features:
-
Voice Boot Camp: A closer look at how celebrities prepare for their Blind Auditions.
-
The VIP Room: Contestants get to watch fellow celebrities perform.
-
The Workroom: Viewers see the stars rehearse, plan, and prepare for the Battles.
These additions will give audiences more access to the preparation and strategy behind the performances.
When Will ‘The Voice: Celebrity’ Premiere?
The Voice: Celebrity is scheduled to premiere on NBC in spring 2027. The network has not yet revealed the celebrity contestants or announced an exact premiere date.
With a new host, a different coaching lineup, and celebrities who are reportedly more competitive than producers expected, the upcoming season could bring a completely different energy to the familiar singing competition.
The biggest question remains: which famous faces will step onto the stage, and will audiences discover a hidden singing talent they never expected?
