After 1,500 Days in a Shelter She Wonders If She’ll Ever Find a Home

Meet Shyla, a sweet dog who came to the Humane Society of Naples in 2020 after being found all alone. When she first arrived, Shyla was very shy and nervous around new people. The kind people at the shelter hoped she’d find a loving home quickly, but Shyla has been waiting for over 1,500 days—that’s more than four years!

Even though Shyla takes time to trust new friends, she’s full of love and fun once she feels safe. She loves to play, run around, and act silly. Her favorite moments are when the shelter staff wakes her up to play in the yard or takes her for a special treat, like a pup cup.

But living in a shelter for so long has made Shyla a little sad. Patrizia Vila, who helps at the shelter, says Shyla sleeps a lot in the mornings and doesn’t get excited when people arrive. When she’s playing, she’s happy, but you can see in her eyes that she misses having a family to love her all the time.

Finding Shyla a home isn’t easy because she’s shy at first. Some people don’t want to wait to become her friend, but Shyla just needs someone patient who will give her a few visits to feel comfortable. The shelter is working hard to help her, but what Shyla really wants is a cozy home of her own.

Shyla would love a calm home where she can relax. She’s okay with another dog but would prefer a house without young kids. Once she trusts you, she’ll be your best friend and give you lots of love. Patrizia says Shyla dreams of snuggling on the couch or bed, watching movies, and falling asleep next to her new family.

Shyla is waiting for someone special to give her the home she’s been dreaming of. Could that someone be you?
