No pet should ever be treated badly, but some animals don’t get the love and care they need. In Mexico City, there was a dog who had a tough life because his owners weren’t kind to him. They left him tied up outside their house all the time, even when the weather was awful.
One day, a big storm came with lots of rain and hail. A neighbor saw the dog, named Leo, curled up and trying to stay safe from the storm. The neighbor felt sad because Leo’s owners didn’t seem to care. So, they made a video of Leo and put it on Twitter to show everyone how he was suffering.
The neighbor wrote, “I want my neighbors to know that they leave Leo outside no matter what the weather is like. Please, animal helpers, save him!” They used the name @JC_real__ and asked for help from the mayor, Gustavo A. Madero.
Lots of people saw the video, and it made them want to help Leo. An animal rescue worker named Letty Varela saw it too. She works with a group that saves animals in Mexico City. She told everyone on Twitter, “We went to Leo’s house and talked to his owners. We rescued him from the bad place he was in. Now, our doctors are taking care of him. No more animal cruelty!”
Later, Letty shared good news. She showed pictures of Leo looking so much better. She said, “We saved Leo yesterday, and today he’s calm, happy, and full of love. Big thanks to my team for working hard!”
Because the neighbor spoke up and the animal rescue team acted fast, Leo got a new chance to live a happy life. Now he’s safe, cared for, and free from being treated badly.
