One day, a group called Hope for Paws in Los Angeles got a call about a dog that needed help. It was a German Shepherd stuck in a deep concrete part of the Los Angeles River. There were no roads or paths for the dog to get out, and he had been trapped there for miles.
Some kind people who lived nearby had been giving him food for weeks, but he was still all alone and couldn’t escape without a big rescue.
The Hope for Paws team didn’t have everything they needed for such a hard job at first. But with help from the community, they got the right tools fast.
One brave volunteer went down to the dog, moving slowly and being very gentle. That small act made a huge difference.
The dog, who was tired and scared, didn’t trust people at first. They named him Peggy later. When the volunteer touched him kindly, Peggy stopped being afraid. He started to cry a little and leaned into the volunteer, showing he felt safe. It was a sad but happy moment.
With a lot of care, the team got Peggy out of the river. They took him to a safe place where he could get medicine and rest. Soon, Peggy went from being a scared, lonely dog to a happy one who loved people.
Hope for Paws is a group that works hard every day to save animals like Peggy. They give dogs who have been forgotten a new chance to have a good life.
