“Far away from Nicole, Keith brings us back to real country music!” That’s exactly how it felt when Lainey Wilson suddenly stepped out to join Keith Urban for “Where The Blacktop Ends” at the CMA Awards. The moment they started singing together, the whole arena shot to its feet. The duet wasn’t just good—it was electric. Keith’s guitar lit up the stage, Lainey’s voice cut through the room with pure country grit, and together they created a moment that felt straight out of the golden days of Nashville. The crowd couldn’t get enough. Keith Urban was on fire, Lainey Wilson proved she’s the real deal, and for a few minutes, everyone got to feel that raw, old-school country magic again.

Keith Urban Performs At The 59th Annual CMA Awards Despite No Nominations

Keith Urban was part of the performance lineup for the 59th annual CMA Awards that took place on Wednesday night, November 19.

The ceremony, which aired live from Nashville, Tennessee, revealed its list of performers ahead of time.

Performances throughout the night included Kelsea Ballerini, BigXthaPlug, Brandi Carlile, Kenny Chesney, Luke Combs, Riley Green, Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley, Patty Loveless, Megan Moroney, Old Dominion, The Red Clay Strays, Shaboozey, Chris Stapleton, Zach Top, Tucker Wetmore, Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town, and Stephen Wilson Jr.

However, Urban’s participation came as a bit of a surprise for fans. He was revealed as an addition in the same update that shared the CMA presenters just days before the event.

It was even more of a shock to see Urban added, considering he wasn’t nominated for any of the show’s categories. In fact, the last time he received a CMA nomination was back in 2020.

Still, even without any nominations, seeing Urban take the CMA Awards stage was a big moment for fans since it’s something that doesn’t happen very often.

Viewers were also curious about what song he would perform. Ahead of the big night, the Country Music Association didn’t share that detail.

It turns out the reason Urban’s song choice wasn’t announced before the live broadcast was because he was a special guest in Lainey Wilson’s opening performance!

Together, they sang part of Urban’s 1999 hit “Where the Blacktop Ends.”

Keeping everything under wraps was definitely worth it. Urban did not disappoint during his time on stage!

“Rock history in motion.” The moment Foo Fighters invited Sir Paul McCartney onstage for “Get Back,” the stage turned into a crossroads of eras. It was a bridge — a salute between disciples and a legend. And everyone in the room could feel it: that night, rock wasn’t looking back… it was moving forward.
