Appearing on The View, Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson shared heartfelt details about their upcoming film Song Sung Blue, a project rooted in a real-life love story and described as a moving tribute to the enduring power of music.

The film is inspired by the true story of Mike Sardina and his wife, Claire, a Midwest couple who found love through music and pursued their shared dream by forming a Neil Diamond tribute band. Their journey — from small bars and local venues to deeply personal performances — celebrates ordinary people who refuse to give up on creativity, no matter how modest the stage.
Jackman revealed that his bond with Hudson began not on set, but in the recording studio, where they met for the first time. “I got goosebumps the moment Kate started singing,” he said, explaining that he instantly knew their collaboration would work. That early musical connection, he added, became the emotional foundation of their performances onscreen.

Hudson also recalled a special moment off-camera: a visit to Neil Diamond’s home in Colorado, where the two shared lemonade and conversation. Jackman later joined Diamond as well, spending an evening together that included dinner and karaoke. According to the actors, Diamond expressed genuine enthusiasm for the film and his music’s role within it.
The production carries a deep sense of authenticity and respect for its real-life inspirations. Claire Sardina attended the film’s premiere, and Jackman shared that he even wore Mike Sardina’s actual suit jacket — a gift from Claire — in select scenes as a personal tribute.

At its core, Song Sung Blue is about honoring performers everywhere — not just those filling iconic venues, but singers in bars, at parties, and in local communities who perform purely for the love of music. Jackman described the film as “a love letter” to Neil Diamond’s songs and a celebration of everyday artists whose passion never fades.
More than a musical drama, Song Sung Blue tells a universal story of devotion, perseverance, and the quiet magic that happens when love and music grow side by side.
