Elon doesn’t talk about his dad much because they don’t get along. In 2017, Elon said his dad was a great engineer but a bad person. He called his childhood with Errol tough and lonely. Elon even said his dad did lots of awful things, but he didn’t say exactly what. In one story, Errol told Rolling Stone magazine that he shot three people who broke into his house in Johannesburg, South Africa. He got in trouble for it but was let go because he said it was self-defense.
Errol has had many girlfriends and marriages. After Maye, he married Heide Bezuidenhout in 1991 and had two kids with her. They were together for 18 years before breaking up. Then, Errol started dating Jana Bezuidenhout, who was Heide’s stepdaughter from another relationship. Jana was only 4 when Errol married Heide, so he helped raise her. When Errol and Jana started dating, it surprised a lot of people because it felt strange.
Errol and Jana had a baby boy named Elliot Rush Musk, nicknamed Rushi, in 2018. Later, when Jana was turning 35, they had another baby, but Errol said it wasn’t planned. They don’t live together anymore because they’re so different in age. Errol believes having lots of kids is important for the world, just like Elon does. He even said six women claim he’s the dad of their kids, but he’s not sure if that’s true. He thinks some might be making it up since he dated a lot of people years ago.
Elon was upset when he found out about Errol and Jana’s relationship, and it made things worse between them. Like his dad, Elon has had many love stories and kids too. He married Justine Wilson in 2000, and they had a son named Nevada who sadly died at 10 weeks old. They used special doctor help to have twins, Xavier and Griffin, in 2004, and then triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian, in 2006. They broke up in 2008 after having five kids.
That same year, Elon started dating actress Talulah Riley. They got married in 2010, broke up in 2012, got back together in 2013, and split again in 2016. They didn’t have kids. Then Elon dated Amber Heard in 2017 for a few months. Some think he’s the dad of her baby girl born in 2021, but no one’s sure.
In 2018, Elon started dating singer Grimes. They had two kids together but split up in 2021. Around that time, Elon also had twins with a worker named Shivon Zilis from his company Neuralink. People didn’t find out about those twins until July 2022, and some wonder if Elon kept it secret from Grimes.
Elon has nine kids now, but he’s not always close to them. His son Xavier, who’s 18, asked a court to change his name because he doesn’t want to be connected to Elon. Recently, a newspaper said Elon might have had a special friendship with Nicole Shanahan while she was married to Google’s Sergey Brin, but Elon says that’s not true.
Even though Errol and Elon don’t get along, they both love having big families. But their kids and relationships show that being a dad isn’t always easy for them.
