On April 9, 2025, a very sad thing happened in Columbus, Ohio. A 7-month-old baby girl named Elizah Renee Lynn Turner was hurt badly by one of her family’s pit bull dogs and passed away. Her parents, Mackenzie Copley and Kameron Turner, are very heartbroken.
A Happy Baby
Elizah was a joyful baby who made everyone smile. Her obituary said, “Elizah’s face would light up the room and her laugh was contagious.” She loved watching Miss Rachel on TV and was always happy. Her grandpa called her “Kicking Wing” because she would kick her legs with excitement when she saw new people. Elizah brought so much love to her mom and dad.
A Terrible Accident
The family had three pit bull dogs at home. On that sad day, one of the dogs attacked baby Elizah. Her parents rushed her to a fire station, and then she was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, but she could not be saved. The police called it a tragic accident. They are still trying to find out which dog hurt Elizah. Franklin County Animal Control took all three dogs to keep them safe while they investigate.
Parents’ Heartbreak
Elizah’s mom, Mackenzie, shared her sadness on Facebook. She wrote, “I will never understand why!!! I am so lost and broken. This was the same dog who was side by side with my baby every single day.” She posted pictures of Elizah with the dogs, showing how they seemed to love each other.
Elizah’s dad, Kameron, also shared his feelings. He wrote, “Life is so not fair. How can I continue living without her.” Both parents are very sad and miss their baby girl so much.
A Community in Grief
The police officer, Sgt. James Fuqua, said everyone feels like they lost their own child because they are parents too. He said, “There is really not a lot of words I can say to convey how I feel.” The police are not planning to charge the parents, as they believe it was an accident.
A Growing Problem
According to Animals 24-7, this was the fourth time in less than a month that a pit bull attack caused a baby’s death in the United States. This year, 22 people have died from dog attacks. This news reminds everyone to be careful with pets around young children.
Helping the Family
People have started a GoFundMe page to help Elizah’s parents pay for her funeral. They also have a 4-year-old son, and they need support during this hard time. Elizah’s family will always remember her bright smile and the love she brought to their lives.
