Tesla is working on a new kind of car called the Cyber Cab, a Robo Taxi that drives itself. It’s not ready yet, but it might be here sooner than we think—maybe by 2026. Here are five reasons why it could come soon and how it will help people.
First, Tesla is testing the Cyber Cab on real roads. They’re hiring people to control the cars from far away using computers, like a video game. This helps make sure the cars work well, even in tricky spots. Other companies that skipped this had problems, like cars causing traffic jams.
Second, Tesla is great at building cars fast and for less money. They already have places to make and fix cars, so they’re ready to go. Tesla thinks they can build a million Cyber Cabs a year, which means lots of people can ride in them soon.
Third, Tesla plans to start in a few cities, like Chicago, with thousands of Cyber Cabs. By starting small, they can make sure everything works before going to more places. Other companies are moving slower.
Fourth, Tesla has a phone app that millions of people already use. The Cyber Cab can join this app, so it’s easy to book a ride. Tesla also has special chargers that work without plugging in, which other companies don’t have.
Fifth, Tesla wants to grow big by starting in one area, making it work well, and then offering rides cheaper than others. There might be small problems at first, like making sure the car’s computer is perfect, but Tesla is good at fixing things.
The Cyber Cab will help people in many ways. It could cost only 20 cents a mile to ride, much less than regular cars or taxis that cost about 58 cents a mile. That saves money for families. The cars also learn fast—if one Cyber Cab sees something new, all of them know it right away, so they get better at driving every day. Plus, sharing Cyber Cabs means fewer cars on the road, less traffic, and more space for things like parks. Inside, the Cyber Cab is roomy and comfy, so you can relax or play while it drives. Tesla says it could be 10 to 20 times safer than regular cars because it never gets tired or distracted.
The Cyber Cab might start testing in Austin, Texas, in June 2025, and be ready for everyone by 2026. It’s exciting to think about cars that drive themselves! What do you think about riding in one?
