Sir Tom Jones Says Age Has Deepened His Voice—and His Determination to Keep Performing

At 84, Sir Tom Jones is embracing both the changes in his voice and the stage spotlight with no intention of stepping away. The legendary Welsh singer, whose career spans back to the swinging ’60s, says growing older has actually enhanced his vocal performance rather than diminished it.

In a recent interview with Yours Magazine, Jones reflected on how age has reshaped his sound: “My voice has definitely dropped. As we get older, the pitch changes and there’s more texture. Sure, you lose a bit of control, but you gain richness, more character. That’s what I hear now.”

He added, “You’ve just got to work with it—push harder. And I still can. I can sing, and I’ll prove it every time I step on stage.”

And proving it he is. This year alone, Tom has brought his Ages & Stages World Tour to audiences across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the UAE. Now back in the UK, he’s set to perform in Surrey, Plymouth, and Southampton before heading to Spain later this month. Far from slowing down, Jones continues to thrive on the road.

Despite many of his peers retiring, the “It’s Not Unusual” star isn’t ready to hang up the microphone. “You reach a certain age and start looking at life differently,” he said. “But I don’t feel worn out—I feel motivated. I’ve still got something to prove.”

Known as much for his powerhouse vocals as for his heartthrob status in his heyday, Jones also touched on his once-wild fan encounters. “It started as a bit of shtick and snowballed,” he recalled with a laugh. “Next thing I knew, I was drowning in panties.”

One incident in Las Vegas stuck with him: “Someone threw a room key on stage. I asked, ‘Whose is this?’ and a woman replied, ‘Use it and you’ll find out.’”

While the intensity of that fan frenzy has faded with time, Jones doesn’t miss it. His focus now is on performance and health. After a hip replacement in 2017 and a second surgery five years later, he feels strong and ready to take the stage.

“If my voice gave out, I wouldn’t keep going,” he admitted in an interview with The Metro. “I wouldn’t want to cheat an audience. But as long as I can sing like this, I’ll keep doing what I love.”

Though he no longer moves around the stage like he once did, Tom Jones has never sounded more resolute—and he’s not going anywhere just yet.

THE CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE THAT BROKE COUNTRY MUSIC — Céline Dion & Chris Stapleton UNITE In a Heaven-Shaking Duet That Leaves GEORGE STRAIT In Tears On the Front Row 🎄🔥😭 “I’ve Never Seen Anything Like This,” Fans Scream As History Is Made Onstage and Leaves Millions Asking: “Did We Just Witness History?”!No one in the arena knew they were about to witness a moment powerful enough to shake the foundations of country music and pop history. The lights dimmed, the orchestra held its breath — and then Céline Dion stepped into the spotlight with a glow that felt almost unreal. But when Chris Stapleton walked out beside her, the audience detonated into screams. This was the Christmas duet the world never dared imagine: Céline’s angelic fire colliding with Stapleton’s smoky soul in a once-in-a-century performance of “O Holy Night.” The first harmonies hovered in the air like falling snow, delicate and holy. Céline soared. Stapleton growled. Their voices met in the middle like lightning striking water — explosive, impossible, breathtaking. The arena froze. People clutched their hearts. Grown men wiped their eyes. And then… the camera cut to the front row — where GEORGE STRAIT, the King of Country himself, was wiping tears off his face. His lips trembled. His eyes glistened. He wasn’t just watching. He was feeling every note like it was stitching something back together inside him. Fans later said they had “never seen George Strait cry like that,” calling the moment “a sacred collision of legends” and “the most emotional Christmas performance in modern music.” When Céline and Stapleton hit the final, sky-splitting harmony, the room erupted — a tidal wave of applause, gasps, and disbelief as George Strait stood up, hands shaking, giving them a standing ovation through his tears. 👇 WATCH THE DUET THAT BROUGHT GEORGE STRAIT TO TEARS

The Grammys weren’t prepared for the moment that quietly unsettled the entire room. When Paul McCartney’s name was read, it wasn’t the standing ovation that made producers exchange glances, but what happened seconds later on stage, as a brief pause, a softened voice, and a single offhand line about the song’s origin seemed to signal something more personal unfolding behind the polished broadcast, leaving artists in the audience visibly shaken and insiders later whispering that this win carried a meaning far deeper than a category announcement or a routine career milestone. What that small, easily missed moment may have revealed about where Paul is heading next is the detail fans are only beginning to notice.

A new chapter, written softly — and a new generation quietly stepping into the McCartney story. Paul McCartney is welcoming another grandchild, and the news has surfaced without announcements, photos, or names — just enough to make fans pause and lean in. After a lifetime of shaping music history, this moment reframes legacy in a more intimate way: from stadiums and songs to family and continuity. Whispers are already circulating about which daughter has entered this new chapter — but perhaps the mystery is the point. Some legacies don’t rush into the light. They grow quietly… and change everything all the same.
