More than five decades after its original release, Jimi Hendrix’s landmark second album is being revisited in a massive box set. Scheduled for release on Nov. 7, Bold as Love will present a remastered edition of 1967’s Axis: Bold as Love, expanded across four CDs.

The collection offers both stereo and mono mixes of the album along with an additional 40 tracks. Twenty-eight of those recordings — including studio outtakes, alternate takes, demos, and live performances — have never been officially released.

The project is also being issued on vinyl and in digital formats. It features newly created Dolby ATMOS mixes by Hendrix’s longtime engineer Eddie Kramer, working with Chandler Harrod.

One striking detail of the set is its cover. The artwork comes from a dragon drawing Hendrix created when he was just five years old, selected by his sister Janie Hendrix. “It captures the colors and spirit of what the song ‘Bold as Love’ is about — the strength found in every shade of the rainbow,” she explained.

Originally released in December 1967, Axis: Bold as Love quickly followed the Experience’s debut, Are You Experienced. It climbed into the Top 10 and introduced enduring songs like “Spanish Castle Magic,” “Little Wing,” “Castles Made of Sand” and the title track.

This new edition offers an in-depth look at Hendrix’s creativity during that fertile period, spanning everything from experimental studio cuts to powerful live sets.
