Fellow band member Keith Harkin, who performed alongside Donaldson for many years, paid a heartfelt tribute on the band’s official website.
“To a dear friend, my days spent with you have been some of the happiest days of my life,” Harkin wrote. “Always remembering the countless inspiring stage performances we shared and, more importantly, the confidences and laughs. Holding you close to my heart for the rest of my days.”

Damian McGinty, another former Celtic Thunder star who later rose to fame on the hit US television series Glee, also remembered Donaldson with touching words.
“George was a man who brought light to people’s lives. An incredible talent,” McGinty shared. “Working with him from a young age, he was always the man to make all the Celtic Thunder gang laugh. He had such joy for life. I am deeply saddened by his loss, and my heartfelt condolences go to his family at this time.”

Born and raised in Glasgow, Donaldson taught himself to play multiple instruments and developed a passion for Celtic and folk music, which would eventually shape his career. Beyond his talent, he was admired by his peers for his humor, warmth, and kindness—qualities that defined him both on and off the stage.
