Marcus Ladden Jr. lost his Battle on The Voice, but he’s still in the competition. Kelly Clarkson used her Steal to bring him to Team Kelly.

Ladden Jr., a 19-year-old on Team Queen, sang Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald’s “On My Own” against Chari, who had earned a four-chair turn in her audition. The song choice made the stakes higher. LaBelle herself served as Team Queen’s Battle Advisor, so the singers performed it in front of her. She was impressed and said she would call McDonald to tell him they had done the song justice. ‘The Voice’ Recap: Kelly Clarkson Saves Queen Latifah’s Teen Singer With Her Steal +2

The coaches praised both performances. Clarkson called Marcus’s runs “crazy beautiful” and said singing seems effortless for Chari. Latifah told them she and LaBelle were “blown away” at rehearsal. In the end, Latifah chose Chari as the winner, and Clarkson used her Steal on Marcus. ‘The Voice’ Recap: Kelly Clarkson Saves Queen Latifah’s Teen Singer With Her Steal +2

Clarkson pressed her button while Marcus was thanking Latifah for her work with him.

The steal is a twist on how his season began. In the premiere, Marcus had turned two chairs, Clarkson’s and Latifah’s, and he picked Team Queen. Clarkson had pitched herself as the coach who has won the show, and Latifah countered by asking if he wanted “the world.” Now he gets a second chance with the coach he passed on.

The steal also adds to the rivalry. Both Clarkson and Riley Green have now stolen singers from Team Queen, and Latifah says they would be smart to look at her team because she has “the singers.”
