‘The Voice’ Season 30: 15 Singers Face Elimination as Brand-New Cut Week Gives Viewers the Power to Save a Favorite

The Voice Season 30 is preparing for one of the most dramatic turning points in the competition. After wrapping up the Battle Rounds, the NBC singing show is introducing a brand-new stage called Cut Week, replacing both the traditional Knockouts and Playoffs with a single, high-stakes episode.

The stakes are enormous: 28 singers will enter Cut Week, but only 13 will advance to the Live Shows. That means 15 contestants are expected to be eliminated in one episode, making this a major test for both the artists and their coaches.

There is also a twist that gives viewers a direct say in the outcome. After the coaches make their selections, America will vote to save one additional singer, potentially giving a contestant another chance to continue competing.

With Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green guiding their teams, the new format could change the competition dramatically before the live performances even begin.

1. What exactly is Cut Week?

Cut Week is a new competition phase created specifically for Season 30. In previous seasons, artists typically moved from the Battles into the Knockouts and then the Playoffs before reaching the Live Shows. This season, those two rounds have been removed, and Cut Week takes their place.

The episode is designed to narrow the field quickly. Each coach enters the round with seven artists, and each team must be reduced to three contestants through the coaches’ decisions. Once those 12 spots are filled, viewers will select one additional artist to complete the Top 13.

The new format means that contestants who have survived several rounds may face elimination after just one more performance. It also puts greater pressure on the coaches, who must decide which singers have the strongest potential to succeed in the Live Shows.

According to NBC’s announcement, Cut Week is intended to make room for six weeks of live episodes during the milestone season.

2. How will the 15 eliminations happen?

Here is how the new format works, according to the published rules for Season 30.

Step 1: 28 singers enter

Each of the four coaches has seven artists remaining after the Battles, including an artist gained through a Steal.

Step 2: Eight singers advance automatically

Each coach chooses two artists to move directly to the Live Shows. That fills eight spots.

Step 3: 20 singers compete for four spots

The other five artists on each team perform for one remaining place on their coach’s team. Each coach chooses one winner, bringing the total to 12.

Step 4: America saves one more singer

Viewers vote for one additional contestant, creating the final Top 13 for the Live Shows.

The numbers explain the scale of the elimination: 28 artists begin the episode, and 13 make it through. Fifteen singers will be sent home. The public vote adds one place across the entire competition, rather than one extra place for every team.

3. What does the new format mean for the coaches?

The four coaches — Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green — will each have to make two major decisions before the Live Shows: which two singers deserve automatic advancement, and which one artist wins the final place on their team.

That leaves little room for error. A singer who delivers a memorable performance in the Battles may still be at risk if their coach believes another artist is better prepared for the live stage. Likewise, an artist who does not receive an automatic pass still has an opportunity to earn a place through their Cut Week performance.

The new round may also create difficult choices for viewers. Fans could find themselves supporting a singer who was overlooked by their coach, while others may rally behind a contestant who has consistently delivered strong performances.

For the coaches, the goal is no longer simply to win a Battle. They must build a small team capable of competing through six weeks of live performances.

4. Which singers are at risk after the Battle Rounds?

The Battles have now determined the artists who will enter Cut Week. Each coach has six Battle winners plus one artist brought onto the team through a Steal, leaving seven contestants per team.

The latest Battle results have already produced emotional exits. Sophia Liano lost her matchup with Mia Knight, Marilyn Hucek was defeated by Lexi Stephens, and Kavi Nyx lost to Brooklyn Marie. However, these Battle eliminations are separate from the upcoming Cut Week eliminations; the singers who remain are now facing another round of difficult decisions.

For the contestants still in the competition, Cut Week is an opportunity to prove they can stand out beyond a single head-to-head duet. They must demonstrate not only vocal ability, but also stage presence, artistic identity, and the potential to connect with a live audience.

The coaches’ first two choices will be especially important because those singers can prepare for the Live Shows without having to compete for the last team spot. Everyone else will need to make their performance count.

5. How can viewers save a favorite singer?

One of the biggest changes is that viewers will help decide who earns the final place in the Live Shows. Once the coaches have selected their 12 artists, America will vote for one additional contestant to join them.

That means a singer who does not make their coach’s final three may still have a route forward. A strong fan following could make a difference, especially if viewers rally around an artist they believe deserved more recognition.

NBC has announced new voting methods for Season 30, including text voting and voting through the show’s official TikTok activity. The specific voting instructions and eligibility details should be checked during the broadcast before casting a vote.

The public save is only for one contestant across the whole competition. It is not a separate save for each coach, which makes the audience vote especially competitive.

6. When does Cut Week begin, and when do the Live Shows start?

According to the published Season 30 schedule, Cut Week is set to air on Monday, November 2, 2026, as a two-hour episode on NBC. The Live Shows are scheduled to begin the following Monday, November 9. Episodes will also be available to stream on Peacock the next day.

The show is also moving to a later time slot, with episodes scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Eastern Time during this phase. The change follows NBC’s scheduling adjustment to accommodate its basketball coverage.

Another major change comes with the Live Shows: performances and elimination results will take place on the same night, allowing viewers to see the outcome without waiting for a separate results episode the following day.

Final thoughts: A new era for The Voice

Season 30 is taking a different approach to the road toward the Live Shows. By replacing two traditional phases with Cut Week, the show is concentrating the pressure into a single episode, where 28 artists compete for just 13 places.

For the contestants, it is a chance to prove they belong on the live stage. For the coaches, it means making difficult decisions about their teams. And for viewers, the public save offers one more opportunity to influence the competition.

AMERICAN IDOL COLLIDES PAST AND FUTURE — AND CARRIE UNDERWOOD’S EMOTIONAL REACTION SAID EVERYTHING. As American Idol brought familiar faces and fragile dreams back onto the same stage, the moment quietly revolved around Carrie Underwood, whose composure visibly wavered as Breanna Nix returned carrying unfinished business and a 15-year-old contestant stood on the edge of a brutal reality no one that young should have to face. Carrie leaned forward, eyes glassy, listening with the kind of attention that comes from memory — not judgment — as if she could feel the weight of both journeys at once. Those watching noticed the shift immediately: her smile softened, her voice dropped, and for a brief stretch she said nothing at all, absorbing the performance with an empathy shaped by her own path from hopeful teenager to global star. When she finally spoke, it wasn’t as a judge delivering critique, but as someone recognizing how thin the line is between promise and heartbreak, between coming back stronger and being forced to grow up too fast. In that quiet exchange, Idol wasn’t about nostalgia or competition — it became about Carrie seeing herself in front of her, and the unmistakable ache of knowing exactly what that stage can give… and what it can take.
