There were just five men, carrying the heaviest last names in music history, quietly breaking onto the roof of the old Apple Corps building.

It wasn’t a perfect performance. It was better. It was raw. Julian and Sean, brothers who have navigated a lifetime of complex distance, stepped to the same microphone. Without a word, Dhani stopped the recording. He didn’t save it. He didn’t upload it. He popped the small memory card out of the machine.

He walked to the edge of the roof, the same edge where Ringo once stood in a red raincoat, and he flicked the tiny piece of plastic into the void. It tumbled down five stories, disappearing into the gutters of Savile Row.

They didn’t preserve it for history. They didn’t save it for the fans.

They left the instruments there, unplugged, and walked back down the fire escape to get a pint.

The magic wasn’t in the song. The magic was that they finally allowed themselves to let it go.
