“There’s no way Savannah will be there.” A short line from an NBC insider — but it instantly set off whispers behind the scenes of the 2026 Winter Olympics. With the Opening Ceremony in Italy just days away, Savannah Guthrie — the familiar Today face who has hosted multiple Olympic ceremonies — is expected to abruptly step back. The reason isn’t scheduling or exhaustion. It’s a family nightmare: her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, is still missing. Authorities in Arizona have confirmed the disappearance is being treated as a criminal investigation, stating she did not leave on her own.

Savannah Guthrie set to pull out of hosting Winter Olympics opening ceremony as mom Nancy remains missing

Savannah Guthrie is set to drop out of hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony for NBC as her mom, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing, Page Six can exclusively reveal.

The “Today” anchor, 54, was due to be in Italy for the start of the 2026 Games on Friday — where she was set to co-host the ceremony alongside Terry Gannon — but likely won’t be there, sources said.

Savannah was going to stay in Italy for a week to record “Today” alongside former co-host Hoda Kotb, who will be there for the duration of the Olympics.

“There is no way Savannah will be there,” an NBC source stated.

Page Six has reached out to Savannah’s rep and NBC Sports for comment.

Three-time snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White was expected to join Savannah and sports commentator Gannon in the broadcast booth.

This year’s Olympics is taking taking place Feb. 6 to Feb. 22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Coverage is airing on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

The gig would’ve marked Savannah’s fourth time hosting an Olympic opening ceremony, having done so previously for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to host the Opening Ceremony alongside the incomparable Terry Gannon and snowboarding legend Shaun White,” Savannah said in a statement when her 2026 Winter Olympics coverage job was announced in September 2025. “It’s such an honor to celebrate the world’s best athletes and introduce the magic and wonder of the Winter Games and northern Italy to viewers at home.”

Nancy, 84, was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson and was reported missing by her family late Sunday morning.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed at a press conference Monday that Nancy’s disappearance is being treated as a crime.

“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime and we’re asking the community’s help,” Nanos explained, insisting that Nancy “did not leave on her own.”

According to police, a churchgoer had first called the family to say Nancy hadn’t shown up for services Sunday morning, and worried relatives phoned the cops. Her family had dropped her off at her million-dollar home just after 9:30 the night before.

Nanos said that Nancy “is not of good physical health,” but she “has no cognitive issues at all” and is “of good sound mind.”

Authorities have Nancy’s cellphone and they are planning to analyze it for any leads, Nanos shared, as he pleaded for the public to aid them in the search.

“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900,” the statement added.

Six Legends Honor Charlie Kirk — Alan Jackson, George Strait, Trace Adkins, Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn & Willie Nelson No one expected it. Before 90,000 hearts and millions watching across America, six of country’s greatest walked into the light together. Alan pressed his hat to his chest. George held the mic with both hands. Trace’s deep voice trembled. Kix laid his hands on the piano. Ronnie’s voice broke with reverence. Beside them sat Willie, his guitar ready to sing what words could not. Their harmony rose not for applause, but as a farewell to Charlie Kirk, gone too soon at 31. The crowd did not cheer. They bowed their heads, lifted their phones like candles, and let tears fall in silence.

“They Didn’t Ask Permission — They Changed the Rules Instead.” In a quiet reflection that reframes everything we thought we knew about the Beatles, Paul McCartney looks back on the moment pop music stopped playing it safe and began listening to the unfamiliar. There were no guarantees, no roadmap, and no certainty the audience would follow — only tape loops, strange lectures, radical ideas, and a shared belief that listeners could be trusted with more than a conventional melody. What emerged wasn’t just experimentation for its own sake, but a turning point where popular music crossed an invisible line, carrying millions with it before anyone realized how far they’d gone.

“We decided that our audiences would come along with us, rather than it being down to us to…
